The rising consumer demands of the middle class has greatly revolutionized the tourism industry. The Gurgaon-based company was founded in 2006 by Aloke Bajpai and Rajnish Kumar. Ixigo claims to be an “infomediary” which collates information on trips-particularly their costs, itineraries and highlights-to present the best travel resources possible to tourists. A variety of travel packages, transport options and destinations(both Indian and foreign) are covered.
Ixigo is widely considered to be the foremost travel search engine for Indian tourists,and this latest venture is sure to be a shot in the arm for Ixigo’s expansion and development. The meta search aggregates offers from a variety of branded budget hotel providers. Some of these are Oyo Rooms, Vista Rooms and Zo Rooms. A total of some 2500 budget hotels, across 80 Indian cities, offering room rates ranging from Rs. 599 to 2499, will be covered. According to CEO and Co-founder Aloke Bajpai, this will make planning trips very easy, not just by aggregating information regarding tariffs, but also by posting reviews and photos, and allowing tourists to narrow in on the hotels of their choice based on amenities and location.
2015 has been an excellent year for ixigo so far, with Micromax notching up a strategic investment in ixigo, a move which is likely to aid in the long-term expansion of the travel company. Moreover, Indian Backpackers, a community for budget travelers, was also acquired this year. With the latest meta search resource being unveiled, Ixigo is likely to boost its popularity among budget travelers greatly.
