Start Up India looks set to give a big boost to entrepreneurship in India

Anticipation of an exciting meet

“Start Up India, Stand Up India”, which is expected to kick off on January 16, is looking set to become an excellent initiative and a hugely beneficial one for startups. The detailed plan of the initiative, which was unveiled recently, has highlighted the participation of Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick, Soft-Bank founder Masayoshi Son and WeWork founder Adam Neumann, among others. As many as 2,000 entrepreneurs from across the world are expected to participate in this excellent initiative. Thus, Start Up India has already tickled the imagination of many an entrepreneur.

About Start Up India

The overall programme is going to be conducted by the department of industrial policy and promotion. PM Narendra Modi is expected to show the way, with the unveiling of a new deal for start-ups. Moreover, the focus here will not be on the Ambanis and the Mistrys, but rather on young and up-and-coming entrepreneurs. The startup founders have also asked for a  1-3 year-long tax and compliance holiday for startups under this initiative. They believe that such a policy would greatly boost the performance of the various startups being set up, allowing startups to progress in times of stress.
The spotlight will also shine on tech-centric startups, especially aggregator platforms. With pretty much all segments having forayed into aggregation in a big way, a lot of platform-faciliating tech will be on display.
Moreover, the BJP-led Government will also use the Atal Innovation Mission(AIM) set up by the NITI Aayog to propel innovation and research. The Indian startup scenario has long been considered to have had a dearth of solid innovation, and Start Up India is expected to address the situation. NITI Aayog is likely to head the initiative, along with the department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP).

What we think

Startup meets and fests have long been recognized as an excellent mode of allowing new entrepreneurial ventures to excel, giving startups the leg-up which they so severely need. Start Up India is likely to vindicate the optimism of many a startup founder, regarding the latest measures unveiled by the Government, which aim at making India a startup-friendly country.
