Another popular ‘classic’ application, CrystalDiskMark 5 is now available in the Windows Store. Earlier today, one of our team member noticed that the app is available for free in the store. For those who don’t know, CrystalDiskMark 5 is a storage drive benchmarking application. The application is heavily used by many to determine the read and write speeds of hard drives and SSD’s in laptops and desktops.
Before, users had to download the application from CrystalDiskMark 5‘s website. The application came inside a .zip package which users had to unpack and only then users were able to install the application. Now users can get the same done by going to Store and downloading the CrystalDiskMark 5. Besides, now the developer will be able to push updates directly to the users which was not possible earlier.
It is expected that the developers used Microsoft’s Project Centennial to port the app to Windows 10. Project Centennial allows developers to port their ‘classic’ desktop apps to Windows Store by changing the .exe executables into .appx packages. Using this bridge, developers can also add live tiles, Cortana support, notifications and more on their apps. Just a final note, to run the application users need Windows 10 anniversary updates installed on their PC’s.
