Watch out! A five Second Video Can Cause Your iPhone to Crash

If you own an iPhone and someone sends you an unknown link, think twice before opening it. A five-second video used as a prank is causing almost every iPhone to crash. The whole thing starts when someone shares you a message with the ‘corrupt’ video link. The link takes you to a five-second video and once you play the video nothing happens initially. But wait! Within 20-30 sec your fast and fluid iPhone starts to hang! Eventually, it completely freezes and you can’t do anything. The only way to make everything back normal is hard resetting your iPhone.

The video is currently available on vk.com and testtrial.site90.net. But it is too easy for anyone to download and re-upload the video on any other domain. This particularly looks like an iOS system bug. It was first discovered by EverythingApplePro and later The Verge also confirmed it. As per EverythingApplePro, this can happen because of the way iOS handles corrupt videos.

Coming to the video, it has nothing vulgar and shows a person standing with a TV behind. It also looks like when the video is shared as a media file nothing wrong happens but if opened from a link it crashes the phone. Moreover, we think this doesn’t cause any permanent damage to your device. This only freezes the device and everything turns back normal as soon as the device restarts. Moreover, the bug doesn’t cause any security threats but still for most people including me this is very annoying.

How to Fix Your Frozen iPhone?

If you’re one of the unlucky fellows who ran the video and now has no idea on what do with the frozen iPhone, here’s what you can do. Press and hold the Power and Home button at the same time for 10-15 seconds. For iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, hold the Volume Down and Power button together. This will trigger the hard reset and your phone will work normally after it restarts. Do note, hard resetting your iPhone won’t delete or alter any of your personal data.

Back in 2015 iPhone users were affected by another bug which caused the phone to reboot if a specific string of characters were sent via text message. However, at that time Apple acted quick and fixed the bug. We hope Apple will release some fixes soon for the new bug.

Until then if you would like to try the bug on a spare iPhone click here!

NOTE: DO ACT RESPONSIBLY AND DO NOT CAUSE UNWANTED TROUBLE FOR ANY PERSON BY SHARING THE VIDEO. PAGESWYPE WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG.
