After the Zenfone 3s, Max Asus has come up with yet another device in India. The device is focused on sub 10k category. The Taiwanese brand has today launched Zenfone Live for ₹9,999. The smartphone will is available on Flipkart and comes in three colors Gold, Rose Pink, and Navy Black.
As you may already guess from the name the device focuses on live beautification. This means that you will be able to get beautification even when you’re doing live videos on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube. However, even after being a beauty oriented phone the smartphone doesn’t pack anything special. The device features a 5MP front facing camera with f/2.2 lens.
Coming to the specifications it is not anything special either. The Zenfone Live comes with a 5-inch HD display with a 2.5D curved glass on top. The phone runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 41o SoC and comes coupled with 2GB RAM. Seriously speaking, I really feel Snapdragon 410 is way too old for a smartphone of 2017. Not only that I also feel that it is not at all relevant for a smartphone which costs ₹9,999.
Other than the 5 MP front facing camera the device also features a 13 MP rear camera. The lens has an aperture of f/2.0 and also has a LED flash. Furthermore, the device comes with two storage options. Either you can get 16GB internal storage or 32GB internal storage. However, both the variants have the same 2GB RAM. Again, I feel this where Asus must improve. Other brands like Redmi are offering phones with 3 GB RAM and better specs for the same price. The device also has expandable storage up to 128GB and gives 100GB of Google Drive storage for two years.
Keeping the hardware specifications aside this phone still runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow based Zen UI 3.0. It is sad that brands like Asus are still launching phones with Android marshmallow despite that fact that the newer version of Android, Android Nougat is now available for a long time. For connectivity options, it has 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, dual-SIM, and USB OTG via the micro USB port. It also has GPS, AGPS, and GLONASS.
Moreover, the device comes with a 2650mAh non-removable battery which is again not at all good for the price Asus is asking. However, there are a few things in the device which are good. For example, the device weighs 120 grams which pretty less and should be comfortable for long-term use. Asus also claims the five magnet speaker of the Asus Zenfone Live has some enhancements which helps in suppressing the noise and reducing distortion.
Being an entry level smartphone Asus tries hard to focus more on marketing rather than the specifications. As per the specifications, the device doesn’t attract us much. I really hope Asus will make devices with better specifications or set better price tags. My thoughts about the device are the device is very much over priced and uses old hardware as well as software. This might be the only phone with the Snapdragon 410 in 2017. A phone just with gimmicky live beautification feature and nothing more should not cost ₹9,999 in any manner. I recommend you to skip this phone.
