Links are the most important and unavoidable part of each and the every website. Search engine ranking depends upon all the links we put on that page. These links are mainly of the two types – Do-Follow and No-Follow links. This post would clearly explain you the differences between the Do-Follow and the No-Follow links.

DOFOLLOW AND NOFOLLOW LINKS AND SEO

What are the Do-Follow links?

Do-Follow links are nothing but the normal HTML hyperlinks. When we link to any of the internal or external pages with <a> tag, without having in the Nofollow relation.

Some of the examples of Do-Follow links are as following :

  • With anchor text:

<a href=”http://www.towelrootdownloadapk.com/”>Towelroot APK</a>
or
<a href=http://www.towelrootdownloadapk.com/>download towelroot apk</a>

  • Image hyper link:

<a href=”http://www.towelrootdownloadapk.com/”><img src=”http://www.some-website.com/image-name.jpg” alt=”title to be shown”></a>

  • With URL as an anchor:

<a href=”http://www.towelrootdownloadapk.com/”>http://www.towelrootdownloadapk.com/</a>

  • With relation other than NO-FOLLOW:

<a href=”https://plus.google.com/your profile address” rel=”me”>Your Name</a>

  • With target attribute:

<a href=”http://www.twitter.com/” target=”_blank”>twitter</a>

All links exampled above are the Do-Follow links. Every hyper text link is a Do-Follow link unless No-Follow relation is mentioned in the tag. Look at the example 4th. There I used rel=”me” as the  link relation. It’s also a Do-follow Link.

Wrong Usage:

<a href=”http://www.towelrootdownloadapk.com/” rel=”dofollow”>Towelroot Apk<a/>

There is nothing in the anchor called rel=”dofollow”.

What are the No-Follow links?

As the internet and all the search engines progressed, backlinks were the easiest way to get good rankings and to rank top in the search engines. And this led to the link spamming. To put an end to this link trading and spamming, Google introduced link attribute. This attribute or this relation shows that you are not endorsing links.

Whenever there is a No-Follow relation mentioned in the hyperlink, the link automatically becomes No-Follow.

Some of the examples of the No-Follow links are as follows:

  • With anchor text:

<a href=”http://www.towelrootdownloadapk.com/” rel=”nofollow”>Towelroot Apk</a>

  • Image hyper link:

<a href=”http://www.towelrootdownloadapk.com/” rel=”nofollow”><img src=”http://www.some-website.com/image-name.jpg” alt=”title to be shown”></a>

  • URL as anchor:

<a href=”http://www.towelrootdownloadapk.com/” rel=”nofollow”>http://www.towelrootdownloadapk.com/</a>

  • With multiple relations:

<a href=”http://www.towelrootdownloadapk.com” rel=”external nofollow”>Towelroot APK</a>

<a href=”https://plus.google.com/user Profile Address” rel=”me nofollow”>Your Name</a>

  • With link target:

<a href=”http://www.facebook.com rel=”nofollow” target=”_blank”>Facebook</a>

All the examples shown above are the No-Follow links. You can easily see the rel=”nofollow” part in the <a> tag. It implies that the link is a No-Follow.

There is an another way to easily make the whole page links and content No-Follow by using the ROBOTS Meta tag provided. Add this code within <head>and </head>.

<meta name=”robots” content=”nofollow”/>

DoFollow vs NoFollow: Comparison

Now it’s the time to understand all the difference between the Do-Follow and the No-Follow backlinks and where they usually matter.

Passing PageRankings and the link juice

Do-Follow links pass the link juice and hence also passes the PageRank i.e. the link destination is highly influenced.

Whereas, The No-Follow links DOES NOT pass any link juice and PageRankings, hence link destination is left uninfluenced.

However, No-Follow links always flush the link juice. That implies that, even if the link juice is passed, you will still lose your link juice.

Dofollow links point straight forward whereas nofollow links are like pointing with the eyes.

This is applicable for both the internal links as well as the external links. Hence, only use no-follow for the external links, wherever you don’t want Google to influence that Page. But never use No-follow links for building internal links as it flushes the link juice passed to it.

Crawling by search engines

Do-Follow links are always indexed and crawled by all the search engines.

  • Google: Crawls only normal Do-follow links. It doesn’t crawl the  No-follow links.
  • Bing: May crawl No-follow links and index those links.
  • Yahoo: Doesn’t crawl No-follow links.
  • Ask: Doesn’t crawl No-follow links.

Ranking calculation

The main motto of the No-follow links is affecting the rankings calculations. While Do-follow links are only taken into consideration to decide a page’s rankings, No-follow links are simply useless for ranking purposes. That means, that if your website has 100s of No-follow links, and the other website has 10 Do-follow links then the other will rank higher in the SERP.
