India’s First Cinema to launch VR Lounge is also first in Asia

Priya Village Roadshow PVR ties up with HP to introduce Asia’s only VR Lounge. It will be the first VR Lounge in India to be opened at ECX Logix Mall Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

PVR to install VR Docks located at the theater in association with technology partner HP. Spectators can enjoy the variety of interactive content such as movie trailers, games, action sports, and drama.

The services to these VR docs will be free for first fifteen days. You will have to pay Rs. 100 for 15 minutes later at these docs.

In the inaugural event, Ranbir Kapoor was invited as a special guest. He enjoyed the ‘mind-blowing’ VR experience, has said:

Being an actor, I fear that it might take away the audiences from movie theaters.

In the response, Gautam Dutta, CEO, PVR Cinemas, said:

“VR will not drive away people away from movie watching, as it can’t be viewed for more than 15 minutes at a stretch due to headset weight and feeling of dizziness. Hence people can experience VR while waiting for their film to begin.”
In an initial technology project with HP, PVR to launch 10 similar lounges across India soon. 3 each for Delhi and Bengaluru and rest 4 at other locations.

The VR Docs to use with HP Omen desktops and laptops and accessories from HTC headset and controllers.

PVR visitors at ECX Logix Mall may soon enjoy the exclusive VR trailer for upcoming movie Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. PVR has partnered with Bahubali producers to make the necessary arrangements for VR trailer screening.
