A few days ago, we reported about Nokia coming back to the market. Now, on Thursday, HMD announced that it is coming to mobile market with its branded phones! They will provide both feature and smartphones.
HMD announced this in less than six months of signing a contract with the company. This gave them rights to sell the devices under the later’s name.
Nokia is coming back – confirmed!
After this announcement and agreement, the firm provided HMD to use its name for next 10 years, on feature phones, smartphones, and tablets.
In 2014, after the acquisition of it, Microsoft has the rights to use the brand name until 2024. With the announcement done on Thursday, it is all clear that HMD will use the brand name for new devices.
“HMD has today announced the completion of transactions between HMD, FIH Mobile Limited (a subsidiary of Hon Hai Precision Industries trading as Foxconn Technology Group) and Microsoft, which means that HMD can begin operations as the new home of Nokia phones,” cited the firm,which was once closed down.
Further, “Under the agreement, Nokia will receive royalty payments from HMD for sales of every Nokia branded mobile phone and tablet, covering both brand and intellectual property rights,”
HMD comments that it is working on devices that will focus on “innovation, quality, and experience” with the power of former telecom instruments manufacturing giant’s designs, robustness, and reliability.
“Nokia has been one of the most iconic and recognizable phone brands globally for decades,” Arto Nummela, CEO of HMD Global said in the statement. “The excitement of re-introducing this much-loved, well-known and trusted brand to smartphone consumers is a responsibility and an ambition that everyone at HMD shares.”
HMD will unveil its smartphones in MWC, where it is working as an exhibitor. A few days back, we have seen a lot of leaks based on these devices, including D1C, coming in 2 different variants.
