Funding story

On-demand grocery purchase and delivery portal Peppertap secured a key breakthrough recently. The startup succeeded in raising  Series B funding from Innoven Capital-to the tune of $4 million, in addition to $36 million having been raised by SnapDeal, Sequoia India, SAIF Partners , Ru.net, Beenext and JAFCO. Furthermore, the startup has also acquired Bangalore-based hyperlocal grocery delivery startup Jiffstore. Jiffstore’s entire team thus gets incorporated into PepperTap’s quality-laden lineup, and this will further boost the startup’s services.

A detailed look at Peppertap

Peppertap commenced services on the 26th of November, 2014. It was set up by Milind Sharma and Navneet Singh. Interestingly, key investor SAIF Partners also funds rival Grofers. Peppertap seeks to completely revolutionise the grocery purchasing process by creating an online marketplace(which is fully compatible with mobile shopping) which users can visit whenever they desire. The startup runs an end-to-end service, complete with logistical facilities, which ensures that users get speedy delivers whenever they desire. Thus, the key focus is on customer satisfaction and the fulfillment of their every desire, no matter what it is. This approach is summed up by Peppertap’s promise to ensure grocery delivery within 2 hours.
Peppertap also seeks to make grocery ordering a relatively cost-effective process, and as an incentivizing measure, allows completely free delivery on orders above Rs. 250, and charges a nominal fee of Rs. 50 on orders which are of a lesser magnitude. Currently, the startup’s services can be availed of in 8 cities and urban centres-these are Delhi NCR, Pune, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and Jaipur. The latest exciting developments are expected to allow the venture to expand, bringing further cities under its wings in the process.

Conclusion

Peppertap may be facing extremely tough competition in the shape of the likes of BigBasket and Grofers, but its focus on customer satisfaction and use of innovative technology is certain to give it a big piece  of the rapidly rising segment that is e-grocery ordering and delivery.
