Funding story

An excellent carpooling initiative, the app Orahi recently raised Rs. 3.5 crore from Indian Angel Network(IAN). Existing IAN investors Vinish Kathuria and Amandeep Gupta led the round. They are expected to join the Orahi board. Their involvement will spur the team on towards further growth.

About Orahi

The app is designed to ensure maximum ease of use for the user. The rides on offer are displayed as soon as the user enters the ride’s day and time. Thereafter, tapping on “ride with me” allows users to request others with similar interests to be part of the ride-sharing venture. Any invitation is accepted by clicking on “Yes, thanks”. Finally, the user avails of the ride, and pays only after the ride is completed. This is done with the help of the “Pay now” button present in the app.
This app is also extremely beneficial for car owners, for it allows them a reliable and profitable mode of earning generation through a fair, transparent system. The rules regarding the hows and whys of getting one’s car used for carpooling services is also extremely clear-cut. Furthermore, those sharing a ride together also have the option of chatting with each other in order to set up a single ride.

Recent achievements, and the road ahead

The Sameer Khanna-founded app lets the stats speak for themselves. The app has grown dramatically since the commencement of operations, with 1.6 million kilometers having been shared already. Over 30,000 members have shared 80,000 rides among themselves.
The biggest benefit has been accrued by the environment. Orahi estimates that its services have resulted in the prevention of the mission of as much as 320 tonne of carbon emissions in Delhi. The recent odd-even initiative has also been a big boon for the startup, allowing registrations to increase by 300 percent and car rides by 250 percent. One can confidently say that this startup, and the segment as a whole, has extremely bright prospects.
